Tri-signs to offer crime prevention advice
to motorists
Police in Runnymede have teamed up with Safer Runnymede and the
Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership to try and get motorists
to take greater responsibility for their cars and its contents.
Runnymede's Crime and Reduction Advisor, PC Maureen Ions is working
hard to reduce car crime and those involved in the partnership have
come up with an imaginative way to tackle the problem.
As PC Ions explains: "Tri-signs have been produced containing
warning messages about car crime. The signs are going to be placed
on lamp posts in certain hotspot areas around the Borough to remind
people about car crime. Each slice of the triangle sign has a different
message aimed at educating motorists. The messages read: "Do
not leave personal belongings in your car;" "Thieves operate
in this area" and "Remove your property or someone else
will."
David Dodd, Community Safety Manager for Runnymede Borough Council
commented: "Thefts from vehicles continues to be a real problem
particularly in certain areas of the Borough. The simplest way to
stop this crime is not to leave valuables in the vehicle in the
first place. Many of the victims are visitors to the Borough and
we hope that these signs remind visitors that although it is a comparatively
safe area, property left in their unattended vehicle is at risk."
The first three signs will be going up in Wick Lane, Englefield
Green.
